Global Canopy, the Stockholm Environment Institute and Neural Alpha have launched an online tool that draws on more than 30 disparate data sources to bring unprecedented transparency to hundreds of billions of dollars that are directly or indirectly financing tropical deforestation each year.
This initiative seeks to support finance institutions that to enhance sustainability within their portfolios, as well as to allow civil society and governments to track progress and to better hold to account those failing to act.
Its first analysis has focused on Brazilian beef and soy exports and imports, as well Indonesian oil palm exports and imports. The online tool is built upon the unique supply chain mapping capabilities of Trase, which links trade in commodities that drive deforestation with financial markets around the world.
