Webinar "LIFE Methodology and LIFE Key Europe: Tools for Business Biodiversity Management"

The The LIFE Methodology was the focus of this webinar, organized in collaboration with the Instituto LIFE. Maria Alice Alexandre, executive director of the LIFE Institute, explained with real-world examples how the methodology helps organizations manage, analyze, and disclose environmental data. She also guided companies through the process of identifying their impacts and designing a strategic plan to reduce, mitigate, and offset them, including a specific approach to decreasing impacts in the supply chain.

The adaptation of the LIFE Methodology to the European context was also highlighted.

The The LIFE Methodology enables organizations to objectively quantify their impact on natural resources. It also provides strategic guidance to ensure the effectiveness of conservation actions.

Thus, organizational management for sustainability must necessarily incorporate actions that contribute to improving environmental management, measuring and reducing corporate impact, and conserving biodiversity and ecosystem services.

To be a truly useful tool for the business sector, the LIFE Methodology considers:

  • Biodiversity conservation as a voluntary action.
  • The need for conservation actions to be compatible with potential biodiversity impacts and investment capacity, promoting participation from companies across all sectors of the economy.
  • Objectivity through the quantification of impacts and evaluation of nature conservation actions based on recognized technical and scientific criteria.

LIFE Key web is a management tool that enhances the efficiency of managing and reporting environmental data.

The use of the software also allows for the assessment of conservation actions implemented by the organization.

The tool generates detailed and executive reports that support decision-making regarding the maintenance of biodiversity and the resilience of ecosystem services.

This online event was organized as part of European Green Week. It showcased real cases of companies that have already used LIFE Key to:

  • Improve the analysis of their environmental management system.
  • Measure, evaluate, and compare their positive and negative impacts on biodiversity.
  • Assess action plans focused on biodiversity.
  • Develop strategic communication of their company’s positive environmental performance.
  • Monitor results.
  • Compare results across different business units.
