Emerging Mechanisms to Finance Nature

The four overarching goals of the United Nations Biodiversity Plan that must be achieved by 2050 focus on the health of ecosystems and species, including halting human-induced species extinction, the sustainable use of biodiversity, the equitable sharing of benefits, and the implementation and financing. The latter includes closing the biodiversity funding gap of $700 billion USD per year.

In this context, the importance of developing innovative financing mechanisms that integrate both public and private efforts is recognized.

This working group, formed within the framework of CONAMA, is dedicated to exploring and promoting innovative financial solutions that can support biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration, encouraging private sector participation and effective collaboration with the public sector.

Objective

Facilitar la creación de colaboraciones entre sectores público y privado para incrementar la inversión en proyectos de conservación y restauración de ecosistemas

Identify proposals for tax and financial incentives that encourage companies and individuals to invest in biodiversity conservation

Collect and disseminate success stories and best practices in nature financing to inspire and guide future projects

Research and evaluate emerging financial mechanisms que puedan ser aplicados a la conservación de la naturaleza, como pagos por servicios ecosistémicos, créditos de biodiversidad, bancos de conservación, etc.
